Non-Combustible Landscaping with Natural Slate

FireSmart Canada and FireSmart BC recommend a non-combustible zone of at least 1.5 metres around every home and outbuilding — covered with gravel, decorative stone, crushed rock or slate instead of bark mulch, wood chips or other flammable ground cover.

Wind-blown embers are a major cause of homes catching fire during wildfires. A stone-covered zone around your house gives those embers nothing to ignite.
